FMS letter, Narok
1934. pg. 3 only
[Pg. 3] go to his station
soon & put up some buildings as that’s the only way to
hold the place.
I must have written with my eyes shut when
I said Bessie was 44. I know she is older than I am - but I
really had your birth year 1874. I thot the folks were married
in ‘72 & Lora was born in ‘76 & Clyde in ‘78 because
that’s John’s year. Well, alright, only I’m sorry you are 60
for that seems awful old. But if you don’t feel that
old there’s no need to worry.
So, Alice, I was the first on your 1934
letter list. It seems funny that you need to go away to get
letters written too. About every 2 yrs. we have a quick
vacation then I get caught up. and the years between we go
gallavanting around like this year & I don’t get a thing
done. Next year I hope to get my breath again if not before.
‘Twas nice you could get away for a bit and could have such a
nice time.
You never did do anything about your lame
back did you? no osteopath nor electric treatments. How is
your head. do you have those bad headaches any more? I’ve been
quite free from them lately but I do use aspirin a lot.
Claudon brot something that’s called “Aspergum” & is
aspirin in gum & tho these are only 3 ½ gr. in a chew, I
get quicker & better results from it than I did from a 5
gr. tablet. There maybe something else in it but I think
chewing it gets it into the system quicker, & one feels
the result sooner. I used quite a few on the trip if I felt a
headache coming I could just count on having a comfortable
evening if I chewed one of those things. Now that we are home
& a bit more regular in our habits I shall try to get on
with less of them.
I was so tired this P.M. when I lay down
for a bit of a rest that I couldn’t find a comfy position -
but it’s just a good healthy tired. Last night I slept so good
too. Sometimes I lay awake during the night for an hour or two
but not these nights. I awaken by 5:30 just as it’s getting
light. whether I sleep or not.
Talk about canning. When we left for
Conference the peaches were just beginning to get ripe &
they were so good & quite a nice lot. I told the
boy how to can them & he did put up 2 ½ qts. Mr Clarke got
quite a lot to eat & then the rest were stolen. The boy
was so bothered about the stealing.
The youngsters fussed with the ram too
& broke a part so it hasn’t been pumping & it’s so
dry. There was a heavy rain 2 wks ago & none since. It
threatens & threatens but nothing comes of it. We do hope
the rains wont fail again this year. Mr Clarke is leaving next
week & in May the oranges & avocadoes come on. &
he will miss them all. I hope I’ll get my cans fulled with
marmalade again. Most are empty now. Huckle berries, yum.
Perhaps I’ll get some mulberries from Mr C’s trees they are
full now. I don’t care to do up a lot of stuff but it is nice
to have a few jars.
