Dec. 10, Wed.

Worked at rug. Carmel had dinner with me – she hadn't quite so many babies at theOicha-bad back. clinic as there were needles being given at Mutwangas. Betty Stough is quite ill. More killings by the Mau Mau – both Africans & non-European.

Made black rasp jelly and boiled the strawberries. They brot such a few. Also made Masikini's Karen a little red dress. her mother hulled rice for me. I'll be pretty excited a wk. from tonight.

Dec. 12, Fri.

Didn't do much that shows. Masikini brot 80 kilos of nice large Lubero potatoes. I'm buying up some for Oicha Conf. & giving them because I'm buying them with the tithe money Cl. gave me.

Dec. 13, Sat. Mrs. Harter [birthday]

Masikini baked bread, ginger snaps & ginger bread & I did 4 qts of dills. Will do others mon. Radio said that Kline & Dr. Kleinschmidt got to Oicha about 7 this morning. Must have travelled all night. Will report on Mrs S's condition tomorrow.

Dec. 14, Sun.

Quiet day. Yoana, the newly elected pastor, preached. Had dinner with Carmel. She had tea here. I had a bad head but it's better – but she has a headache tonight. Dr. K. is still at Oicha. Mr S. expects to get to Rethy for council tomorrow P.M.

Dec. 15, Mon. Vera; Mary Ann [birthday]

Mas. baked cookies. I made fudge. Carmel did too. I finished Jewells rug of silk stockings. Boys picking cotton for mattress – twas so bunchy. Stanley and Dr. K. left Oicha this morn, radio said. Seems Bells haven't come yet. Harters are at Oicha.

Dec. 16, Tues. Claudon. [birthday]

I replaced cotton in mattress and tied it & put it onto Mary Ann's bed. Carmel had baby clinic. The baby she makes formula for is gaining fast now. Nice mail. Carmel came down to supper. Closed school but Faith still reads.

Dec. 17, Wed.

Carmel brot boiled ham & we had supper here. I finished Sally Jo's set. We cleaned cupboards so we are ab't ready for our guests. Didn't sleep well last night – nor did I rest today. Was making berry jelly. Program tonight at Rethy.

Dec. 18, Thur.

Good rain just at dark so when Stanley came he got stuck. No one knows where Bells are. They were following Cl. who drove their truck – a wk ago Tues. and no one has heard from them. so Cl. is going tomorrow to find them. Ray may go too. so don't know when they will be out. Will hear on the radio. Cl's are to come here when K's go. Rays go into the Dorm not academy, til Spindlers come.

Dec. 19, Fri.

Radio said Cl & Ray went to Biasiko today & hope to return tomorrow eve & come out here on Sun. It's nice having the Kline children here. Cut some blue rags for Mary's rug.

Dec. 20, Sat.

Masikini did most all baking: pie, cake & iced, buns, prune loaf. Nothing was reported for us over the radio. The boys would be back this eve. We hope to hear in the morning. Native boys came to practice for Christmas.

Dec. 21, Sun.

Radio said the boys got back last eve. The reason Bells didn't come was car trouble. Agnes wrote at once but it hasn't arrived. Rays will be out tomorrow and perhaps Cls. They didn't say. I ate dinner at Klines. & they had supper here.

Dec. 22, Mon. Alice [birthday]

Rays got here ab't 10:30. Claudons will come tomorrow P.M. also Cooks. Had Mary Arms birthday party on the lawn. Rays brot lots of stuff – to eat I mean - so glad for every bit.

Dec. 23, Tues.

Cooks came this eve & brot Billy. Stanley got mail but no parcels came. Betty baked ginger bread men. & we made mince meat (green tomatoes) & Divinity Fudge – which is too soft. Marg. Clapper came to Oicha driving her own car from Nairobi. Have tree up & decorated.

Dec. 24, Wed.

Baked buns – 3 pies – iced cookies made peanut brittle. Cls didn't get here til 3 P.M. Had helpt Mr. De Wilde home. his car would not work. Later Mr Cook, Stan, Ray & Cl went down & fixed it for him. Such a pile of gifts under our tree. Klines parcels have not come so they have not so many as usual.

Dec. 25, Thur.

Such a wonderful day – full of joy and blessing for soul & body. After early breakfast the parcels under the tree were distributed. Faith & Sally Jo were so excited they just ran from one to another to show their gifts. Dick hardly moved & wasn't excited til he saw roller skates. The turkeys were fine. Dinner at Klines – a lot left over. Music this eve. God is so good. We praise Him.

Dec. 26, Fri.

This is the day after but there seems no “hang over” from yesterday. All are chipper as usual. 20 baptised & received into church & the communion. Baked buns for a weiner roast tomorrow, at the river. Nice walk & sit in moonlight.

Dec. 27, Sat.

Weiner roast was almost a failure for it rained all the time we were there. Then sunshine so the whole crowd (almost) went to the hotel for fun in the pool. All here to supper & then to Klines to see Manila & India slides. Mas. was busy most all day.

Stauffachers at Rwenzori
Florence & family at Rwenzori

Dec. 28, Sun.

Had some of Dad's records this eve. Memories! Such a lovely day – the last Sun. of 1952. It's so nice to be together. All had supper here after taking pictures of the whole party. The day has been bright with just enuf clouds to get good pictures. Billy complains of headache – hope he will be better by morn.

Dec. 29, Mon.

Cooks left ab't 8:15 & our car left shortly after. Wish we could peek in & see how they are in camp. Gary went too. I'm crocheting at the bed spread Ruth Collins gave me in 1944. Needs just a little to finish it.

Dec. 30, Tues.

Who should drive in ab't 6 but Bishop & Mrs. Morris. They had tried to tell us over the radio that they were coming but it has been very difficult to get messages – static bad. They are sleeping in Miss F's house. Mrs K. gave them supper.

Dec. 31, Wed.

Morrises got away by 6:30 and hoped to see the boys. They got in ab't 4:30 and had seen Morrises. Cl. took meat 2 waterbuck & 2 buffalo – to Oicha & then came back. Ray etc waited at the turn off. So nice to have all here again but Cls will have to go tomorrow.

Memorandum A

The year has been a busy happy one for me. Had guests most of the time with 6 wks off when I broke my wrist – and again after Thanksgiving which gave me time to do things that have been waiting. And now the close of the yr has been ideal.

Memorandum B

Souls have been saved and the work goes on altho sometimes pretty discouraging. The Mau Mau trouble in Kenya is very serious. lots of raids & burning & stealing. But R.V.A. is to open so John is going down.
