Jan. 1, Fri.
Had a fine night – a hippo came near but nothing
troubled us much. Had breakfast & got home by 11 &
Williams asked us there for New Yr. dinner on the lawn –
roast mutton etc. & a huge cake for Dick. Now the year
has begun how will it end? Still in His keeping I'm sure.
How wonderful His peace is.
Jan. 2, Sat.
Baked cookies. Had hi tea at 4:30 & got
pictures of groups. It's so nice to be back in the big house
& eat on the terrace. Klines want to come back to Rw.
badly but the elders say not so good. God will guide.
Jan. 3, Sun.
I didn't go to meeting as I wanted the boys to go.
I did stew (mutton) & dumplings, & rhubarb sauce.
Had our service at 4 & then supper & some what
packed for morning. What a wonderful time we have had. God
is so good to us all.
Jan. 4, Mon.
Got here by 11 & we brot the left over stew so
we soon had dinner ready. Have been fixing up letters &
packing suit case. Ray is taking some lumber. Got pictures
of cow boy suits & all grands & me. Have all pretty
well ready. All food they fixed for us on Fri is bad of
course.
Jan. 5, Tues.
Rethy.
Left by 4:10 and got here by 3:30. Had very heavy load so
came on slowly but steadily. Got thro in Bunia by 11. When
we got here found Mr. Buyse gone to Aungba with the key.
Later found a window open so M.A. [Mary Ann] got in &
unbolted from inside. Rays have lots of mail. I have one
from Miss Wagnall.
Jan. 6, Wed.
Baked bread & buns and are pretty well settled.
It is so lovely being here. We all slept so well last night.
Peggy asked us to supper of weiners – Very good. She got
them by the lb. in Bunia.
Jan. 7, Thur.
Got 12 kilos honey and are straining it – natives
brot it – sewed & mended some. Had yummy fried chicken
for dinner - & peaches & cream for supper. Living
high. It's so nice to be here with all Ray's family. Miss
Barth came today but eats with Miss Vogel.
Jan. 8, Fri.
Pembe ing [whitewashing] girls sitting room which
is our dining room. Helped get dinner. Betty & I cleaned
windows. I got a letter written too. Ray & Betty are
doing the washing while lights are on.
Jan. 9, Sat.
Can't get any one on radio but Kacengu. Sun spots
beem very bad & persistant. Baked pie shells and cup
cakes. Wanted Barnetts for dinner tomorrow but they have
Schuits there. Had farewell supper for Buyses at Violets –
42 present. Gave them a salad bowl & fork & spoon.
Had lovely gram. [gramophone] music. Miss Barth came.
Jan. 10, Sun. [Evelyn Camp's birthday]
John went for a walk & was late to dinner.
Asked the 3 ladies, Barth & Violet to supper or hi-tea.
Then evening service and loitered to that. Dr. Reitsma
spoke, telling some thing of their joys & sorrows. I got
part of Klines letter finished. We served cup cakes. Had a
candle & flowers on one which was Evelyns. Mr Van [Van
Deusen] goes to Council.
Jan. 11, Mon.
Schuits called. Hope to meet their cousin, Mr.
Baker, C.B. [illegible - Conservative Baptist?] worker out
to see their work. S's went to Blukwa & Mr. Baker came
here this P.M. He leaves by plane Wed. Ironed with electric
iron – so easy – Jno & Betty ironed this eve. Voting
returns came today. [Field Council?] Ray is from here &
Brand & Dr. Becker from So. Congo.
Jan. 12, Tues.
Made couch cover. John finished lovely table for
boys sitting room. Ray sprang one on us at supper by saying
he was taking Mr. Van to Stan [Stanleyville] to get his car
& meet Crossmans – taking John to Bogoro – leaving
tomorrow after lunch!!! So washed this eve. Will bake in
morning. Told Ray to see we were reassigned to Rw.
Jan. 13, Wed.
They left after dinner. I had baked date cookies,
bread & rolls. John left his flash light & the
letters I had written. Mended, ironed & was busy all day
– but didn't sleep well last night so napped today.
Jan. 14, Thur.
Ironed some – with both charcoal & electric.
The latter is fun. Mended some & hemmed dish towels.
Eriksons finally went to Oicha – but I had mailed the Kenya
letters. Sara sent John's flash by Miss Lutz who was going
to Bogoro.
Jan. 15, Fri.
Baked bread & big coffee cake and biscuits for
cobbler and cookies. Almost finished reading “Her Father's
Daughter” by Gene Stratton-Porter. Did finish knitting
Betty's green socks. Girls worked all A.M. (Betty &
Naomi) then drew pictures etc. Karen White (2) had supper
here.
Jan. 16, Sat.
Baked squash pie, double batch cookies (good rich
buttermilk) will do date cookies on Mon. Some one came from
Blukwa & Oicha & brot mail – quite a bunch. Whites
asked us to supper. Very nice. Walked down & back in
moonlight. Couldn't finish reading letters. Lights went out.
Jan. 17, Sun.
Sara went to A.M. mtg & all the others but MA.
We got dinner. Uhlingers here. The steaks were perfect &
squash pie good. Ericksons came back last night & brot a
letter from Gl. Faith has been sick – but better. Cl comes
Wed. goes to Aungba Thur & Fri & Adi over wk end –
seems a good plan. No Ray yet.
Jan. 18, Mon.
Ray came in time for dinner. Mr. Van had a bad time
with his car & trailer – so isn't in yet - &
Crossmans didn't come. Ray had a big load of supplies. I
baked date cookies & plain. Ray says I should write down
reasons for wanting to go to Rw.
Jan. 19, Tues.
Very busy all day moving kitchen and diningroom
things over to their place – putting up curtains &
making up beds. Still plenty to do. M.A. not well at all –
has been in bed all day. Dr's are not yet back, so can't
find the trouble – has malaria, bad cold & when she
coughs she vomits. Quiet tonight but tomorrow the noise
begins.
Jan. 20, Wed.
Ray got nice peaches. Sewed couch cushion covers.
Every body here, I guess – at least quite a mob. Cl. &
Billy didn't get here til after dark. Tire trouble. Ray goes
to council early tomorrow. “On Safari for God” came. Looks
interesting.
Jan. 21, Thur.
Aungba
with Mrs. King. Got here ab't 1:30. Cl. & Mr.
Chaponiere have gone hunting. Miss Settles had supper here
too & Mrs. K's house is so nice. Talked &
crocheted. Buyses are quite well settled only there is
much repair work to do.
Jan. 22, Fri.
Men got back late P.M. with a buffalo & a
waterbuck, so natives are happy. A buffalo comes thro the
station every night looking for its calf which natives brot
in a few days ago. They want Cl. to shoot it – but can't at
night. This has been such a nice restful day. I crocheted a
[drawn square] this PM in a bit more tha 2 hrs. Wrote a
letter to C.J.
Jan. 23, Sat.
Adi. We
left Aungba about 8:30 & got to Aru ab't 10:30. Staid
to lunch with Hurlburts – all very nice and nice house.
Came on & got here by 4. Our load of natives have
found places – and since they had a nice lot of meat spose
they have fed well. Bertha Vollor is here with Joyce –
called this eve.
Jan. 24, Sun.
Lovely quiet day for me – but a boy died last night
& there was much wailing before they got him buried this
eve. A.M. meeting not so well attended because of digging
grave etc. Pete & Cl talked to some here ab't coming to
Oicha for out school work. Then we had service & then
music. All so lovely.
Jan. 25, Mon.
Blukwa.
Left Adi 6:45 stopt at Aru to pick up a native – got to
Rethy for lunch. Picked up another native. Got to here
ab't 5. Saw Ray but haven't heard how anything is decided.
Prue is here – looks very natural. Sleep in Love's house
& had supper with ladies at Miss Porters. Brand had
been sick ever since Council began. Epps got Marian to
drive the car to Oicha & Dr. takes Owen to Oicha.

bath & now all are abed. I'm so sleepy.
Jan. 27, Wed.
Misses Thiessen, Hogan & McLennen here to
supper. Dr. called to tell us what had been done – This is –
nothing. They think best to wait til Klines come. I know K's
wont be happy ab't that and neither are we; but if that
seems best we take it as from the Lord.
Jan. 28, Thur.
Had good school this morning. Dick does better.
Wrote at letters. I feared something had gone wrong with the
help for Yosia & cook are glum. They have both been

The 5 men came in just as we got started well at
our dinner. When Dr. Movins shook hands with me he said
“Hello Florence”. Then Dr. Talbot said “I'll call you Flo”.
Lora had written instructions for them. We got dinner
quickly then Cl. took them to pygmies for pictures but it
rained. Dr. Smith & son David & Mr. Van D [Deusen?]
were the others.
Mar. 14, Sun.
Mr. Smith spoke a bit at mtg. Owen interpreted, Dr.

Mar. 15, Mon.
We were up & got at things: breakfast for 7 -
& packed lunch for them all but Mr. Van & Dr. Movins
came back for lunch & went to the Lake (Edward) - others
are camping out. Buns seemed few for last eve lunch - &
I found quite a few missing. Gl. spoke to Edwa – table boy
says I put them on for guests Sun noon -?? I couldn't sleep
for I don't remember ab't it at all. It's raining – so hope
it will be clear tomorrow. Paul H & 2 ladies returning
from Irumu stopt in. Gl is so tired. Faith was sick
in the night & that kept us up.
Mar. 16, Tues.
Since there is space here I'll use it. Cl. &
his 4 got back in good time for dinner & found the
telegram said no room on plane from Costermans – so all
decided to go to Irumu. Mr. Van & Dr. Movins got back
too for lunch at Beckers. Mary & Evelyn asked Mr.
Williams to take them to Katwa for dental work so we sent
Dick too & as he didn't want to go alone & neither
Gl nor I could go, Faith went. We had school til recess
only. They got back just before dark. Storming on all sides
but we escaped. Dick had 4 roots taken out, & is quite
the hero now.
Mar. 17, Wed.
School went pretty good. Wonder if the Biola crowd
got off to Leo. & Mr. Van got home. Then Ray has my
letter. We expected to see Arthur Barnett before this but
have heard nothing. Stoughs came – are at Drs. but called
here – are getting medical papers for home. Owen, Mr.
Williams & the Indian woman had tea – as they left
Stoughs came & had some too. Nothing much in mail. Hope

mails, only a card from Beatrice saying she'd bring Billy,
but might be a day late.
Mar. 19, Fri.
Work as usual. Stoughs went home also Mr. Williams

way for the 24th when the Moody folks are
expected. No Cl. yet. Finished the oblong rug.

& have nice steaks too. Gl. working at posters for Beni
to announce picture “The God of Creation” by Moody folks.
Girls here now talking ab't beds & meals.
Mar. 21, Sun.
Zefania preached so well. Quite a lot of out school
folks were in – and chiefs too. Church & windows &
veranda were crowded & must have been 1500 or more. The
cook came after S.S. & put food on then then went back
over – so he got most of it. Wrote some letters – rather few
at service – Owen the only off-station one.
Mar. 22, Mon.
How well I remember last yr. I could never believe
then that I would be so well again. The Lord is good. Radio
urges Jewell to come to Belgium at once to take Miss Eagan
home. She has had a nervous break. School went so well today
Dick is waking up.
Mar. 23, Tues.
Paul Buyses and Margaret Clapper came in ab't
supper time. Are looking for L. J. Bs [Leonard Buyse?] to
come – perhaps tomorrow.
Cl put the lattice windows in the tower
[Oicha church] today & it does look so nice. The
pointing outside & in & tile in front floor &
platform is fine. He is making the pulpit.
Mar. 24, Wed.

here almost 7. The show at Beni (“God of Creation”) was to
begin at 8:30. Dr. drove his car & Cl. Mrs. B., Margaret
& I went. Owen & Paul went with speakers. Not many
out but they seemed very interested. The talk was in French.
Mar. 25, Thur.
The children too tired to do good work & Dick
went to bed before dinner. Both slept this P.M. Williams
& Frost came & left after the picture at Beckers.
Supper was very nice. 3 C.B.'s came - & Frost &
Clapper. Guess Jewell leaves on Sun. Pictures were very
good. Paul went home with W's as his father is there sick
with malaria.
Mar. 26, Fri.
Buyses got here ab't 4:30. He is OK again. Gl. had
breakfast ready by 6 as per orders but they never came til
near 7!!! Owen went with them. Every one wrapt up some
native food: sw pot, mohogo, sugar cane, pai pai etc &
“bon voyage” on & all went to Beckers & Mary brot
Jewell & she was so surprised she cried.
Mar. 27, Sat.
Radio said no other plane can be found for Jewell.
Girls cabled again to know when could she get there.
She goes a wk. from tomorrow. It's very hard on Miss Love
& Wambold. Baked pie only. Buyses stay til Wed. We sang
this for Jewell. Blest be tie. [to the tune of “Blessed be
the Tie that Binds”]
“We're
sorry your going away
We wish that you c'd stay
We surely will miss you
We're waiting to kiss you
We're sorry your going away.”
Mar. 28, Sun.
Buyses all at Beckers for dinner - & Margaret
with ladies – so Cls packed lunch & went to pygmy camp
off the Watalinga road. I had quiet day reading &
writing. All during our service it rained. A piece of
ceiling in Gl's room came down & the kitchen is flooded.
Mar. 29, Mon.
Buyses left for Bunia & Bogoro right after
breakfast & Paul with them as he needs a spring for his
car. No one for dinner and Jewell & Margaret C. &
Kathryn & Timmy for fish supper.
Starting 2nd sock. Tan & green.
School went pretty good.
Mar. 30, Tues.
Mr. Williams & Masikini stopt in on their way
to Bunia for car repair. Mas. & Kasole are buying it.
Brands family came in – brot med. for Dr. Paul B. got back
& they went to Beni shopping. They want to be off early.
Gl & I made out Ward order. I had cloth, flush, thr'd,
bra.
Mar. 31, Wed.
Just before dark Harters came. Had driven up from
Mombasa. Some trip these days. Were up early & got
breakfast for Buyses & Clapper. Then Brands had
breakfast with us & left after pr. mtg. Rained & was
cold all P.M.
Apr. 1, Thur.

acceptable to us for we hope it will be decided who comes in
W's place.
Apr. 20, Tues. [FMS birthday]
I was reminded it was my birthday by Bafumoyo
coming to the door with gifts from W's. Listened to radio

everything – but does very well.

tonight. W. has the radio connected so hope to hear in the
morning. Had music for a bit but Mrs. Pollock didn't stay.

for it. Can pay W's now. Cls are still in camp – til next
wk.
Apr. 30, Fri.
Pollocks & Williams left by 4 for Katwe to see
the Queen – but they couldn't go beyond Kisindi – so they
spent the day in the Park seeing animals & they saw a
lot. We went to the hotel for dinner. Had a very nice 4
course dinner & coffee. I had sent Mrs Ps birthday
letter to be posted at Katwe – now I'll post it at Beni.

Mr. W's. Mas. must take every chance he can at driving.
Finished Faith's yellow socks.
May 4, Tues.
Got letters off to Jessie Scudder and Al. Should
have written more when it is such a good chance to post them
cheap. Air from Uganda is not as much as our surface. Got
the double puzzle together & had lots of fun doing it.
Fatuma & Mr. P. fussing & funny.
May 5, Wed.
Pollocks got away by 6:30. Had breakfast at
Williams. I made lunch for them. Saw the chickens I'm
getting from Mrs. W. 17 – about 12 hens or more. They are a
nice looking bunch. Wrote Blanche Schultz. Hope Cls will be
here tomorrow night.
May 6, Thur.
Cls got here ab't 5 P.M. Dr. Mrs. Becker & Mr.
Senff came in time for dinner - & didn't leave til 4.
Now breakfast & lunch are packed for going to the Park.
Nice mail – several letters . Wonder if Mrs P. had a nice
birthday – 76 – I think.
May 7, Fri.
They got off by 4:30 and had a grand day – not too
sunny but no threat of rain. Rays are sleeping at Niangara
if plans carried & will be in here tomorrow night late.
Got pretty tired fixing up beds & helping in kitchen.

Mothers ate on the veranda. Then the others filled the
dining table – 18 in all. The children gave me sausages 4
small tins which they hope would be used at a picnic by the
river tomorrow.
May 10, Mon.
Went to Lusilubi for weiner roast and got rained on
– hard. Stood under banana leaves. Just at supper time
Pollocks pulled in – 19 for supper. Rays are all packed
ready to go early. Mr & Mrs P. in corner room &
John, Billy & Pollocks in living room. So all have beds
- & plenty of place to sleep.
May 11, Tues.
Again they got away early by 5. Cls left after
breakfast & so did Williams & Mas. The Pollock boys
went too. Were hoping to get back but haven't - & Gl.
didn't get any vegs. nor fruit but 1 pineapple. I'm
so sorry we just forgot ab't it. Fatuma went too & will
go up with Cls next wk. W's took the radio so no more news.
May 12, Wed.
Williams & boys got back just after our supper.
Rays got to Rethi OK & Cls got home & got vegs. too
at Beni. She sent me a kilo of butter & some eggs –
Bless her! Dr. found her tooth OK but 2 fillings touching
were making an electric current – some non-electrifying
pills have stopt the pain. Boys did big washing.
Wrote some letters.
May 13, Thur.
If I could have seen how I feel today – it wouldn't
have been so hard. I do thank God for all He has done for
me. I feel sad for I hear Ks are determined to come here. I
fear they'll regret it if they insist. Wrote some. Made
do-nuts. Ws here all day also Prue for supper.
May 14, Fri.
Girls left right after breakfast. I wrote letters.
Intended changing beds around but can't do much til
tomorrow. One of the roosters that Gl. brot has wandered
away – hope I'll find him. Will kill a rabbit tomorrow for
Sunday.
May 15, Sat.
First night alone. To look back to last yr. keeps
my heart full of praise. Today I worked really hard helping
with beds & mattresses & am tired – will wash my
hair & go to bed. Pollocks left after break. & were
well along when they discovered they'd left their hand bag.
We saw it & Mr. W. went after them but they missed him
& came back.
May 16, Sun.
A nice quiet day – with W's & Prue here to
dinner & supper. Had a good rest this P.M. & feel
fine again. Guess I did a bit too much yesterday – but the
heavy work is done now – at least until I move again if
Klines come.
May 17, Mon.
Bishop & Mrs. Brown & Alison 7 yrs. got
here ab't 11:30 having come from Katwe so didn't bring mail
etc from Oicha – but Justin went on his bicycle so we hope
he will get back in good time tomorrow. They have brot so
much work – not much vacation. We killed the little pig that
no one claimed.
May 18, Tues.
Justin got back but brot no news of what Council
did ab't us. But a note from Dr. replied that there was no
word from Davis so nothing was done either. Gl. said Mr.
Senff may come tomorrow. The Bishop went to de
Wildes to see ab't climbing the Mt. but all is closed now
getting ready for the King of Belgiums visit. He brot 2 sets
of Mt pictures Grace Congleton ordered.
May 19, Wed.
The Bishops chauffeur took Williams out to the main
road & left them ab't 9:30. No truck had come. Then he
returned – but ab't 1 decided to go again & see &
found them gone. Senff came just as we finished eating &
brot quite a lot of mail – especially for Williams – also
brot things from Gl. some beef. I wanted Mas. to cook but
part was still frozen hard so have kept it til tomorrow.
May 20, Thur.
Just another day with its round of duties that one
can't record because they are so commonplace. Readdressed
W's mail & addressed their parcels of books & also
Miss Congleton's Mt. pictures. Now to get them mailed. 2 AM
lady tourists called & staid for 2 hrs. this A.M. Asked
questions & Mr Senff gave them the Gospel. One seemed to
be a Christian – at least understands the way of salvation.
May 21, Fri.
It's so very different this yr. I am so well &
can do all that needs to be done. Have been thinking much
about Uncle Dick – 97 – is pretty close to 100. Hope Gl. is
getting good rest. Mr. Senff has very bad cold & Bishop
is not feeling very well. Works at his book evenings. An
acct of the church of St. Thomas at Malabar.
May 22, Sat.
Baked pie, buns & do-nuts. Lovely & sunny
this P.M. Worked at letters some because Kasole says he is
going to Oicha tomorrow P.M. The Bishop has consented to
speak a little to the people and also to us tomorrow night.
May 23, Sun.
Heavy fog this morning. Then cleared but later
rained til after dark. Thot we were getting letters off to
Oicha. Kasole asked Saa 2 who is chauffeur for Jacquemin to
drive his car to Oicha & show him how – but J. wouldn't
let him so they returned – and our letters are here. Bishop
spoke so nicely to the people and also led our evening
service.
May 24, Mon.
Mr. Senff papers haven't come tho he drove to
Mutwangas to get them. He will go again in the morning &
if they aren't there he will go on to Beni & get them.
Rained again this P.M. tho it was a pretty morning. Mrs
Brown painted the falls for me. She does such very nice
work. Picked strawberries 2 dish pans. Made 4 mac tins of
jam.
May 25, Tues.
Mr. Senff got away right after breakfast. Wonder if
he went to Beni first. The Bishop seems to be having the
same trouble Mr S. had. Hope he can get rid of it. She &
I went to dispensary to see what there was that would help.
He played Beethoven Sym. So pretty & so nice to have
some one run it.
May 26, Wed.
The Bishop seems better today. They went up the
hill – Mbafu moya led them. Too late to see the snow but
they enjoyed the view back. Took sheets down for W's beds
& picked up a few things. If I go down there I hope I
can pembe first. Looks pretty lonely – bet Cls house does
too if they came back from Rethy today.
May 27, Thur.
They wanted to do something in the garden so they
picked strawberries & Mas. baked his cake so we had
berries and cake for supper. Pressured the pork 1 ½ qts. and
a nice lot of fat. Evenings they write or study language
& I'm knitting Billy's socks.
May 28, Fri.
Baked bread – wanted to have waffles for supper
& then couldn't find an iron. Guess mine hasn't come
over yet. Prue here to supper & the even. The guests are
packing to leave in the morning. They have been such lovely
guests. Evening prayer time especially helpful.
May 29, Sat.
The Bishop & family left right after breakfast.
They were ab't at Mutwanga when it rained here pretty hard.
They are just across the Mt. from us for over Sun. &
said if they left any thing we c'd send a runner across -
& they did leave Alisons panties & a hanky.
May 30, Sun.
Betty went to half way school. We ate together both
meals. The wood man finally offered to go with our mail. He
has never been to Oicha nor Beni. I wonder when he will get
back. We played hymns on the phono & I read.
May 31, Mon.
Have paid some of the help, will finish up
tomorrow. Thank God I have the money for them all. Lassie
ran away just at dark & the boy hunted for her with the
lantern. She came back herself & I shut her up, before
the boy got back.
Jun. 1, Tues.
No mail boy yet. Made dill, bread & butter and
sw. pickles today. Bot cucumbers from a native. Jacquemin
told them to plant lots & he wd buy - & now they
have things & he wont buy. Made the brown & orange
stool cushion cover – looks nice on couch.
Jun. 2, Wed.
5 yrs. ago today we landed here at Oicha & they
left Irumu by plane today. The boy came with mail – he sure
had a load. He surprised us for we thot he seems so stupid.
I feel like giving him a big matabisi. My new aid
and quite a lot of letters and one from Gl. that says they
are coming here. Klines to Oicha (tentatively) Ray is on
Inter Field so is at Kola Ndoto now.
Jun. 3, Thur.
Dr. came. Had dinner here. Tomasi & I baked
bread & buns. I was just writing a card to Kreutters
because I couldn't get a wire to them when here they came.
They are in the small corner room. Will try to rearrange
things when Klines get their things out. Cls wont start
moving til Klines come.
Jun. 4, Fri.
Pd rest of the workmen and have a bit left – Thank
God. Also have word of Stacy's gift of $25. God is good.
Council says go ahead with remodelling the house – So –
wonder what will be accomplished by next year.
Jun. 5, Sat.
Masikini has had the day off. Whites came ab't 2
P.M. brot more mail & some of Cls things. The organ
& books. In the mail was a letter from Stanley
explaining why he hadn't written. Carmel was sick for 3 wks.
in hospital some time. Then he was sick - & packing to
do. He seemed satisfied with Council decision.
Jun. 6, Sun.
All went to service. Quiet P.M. Am trying to get
Williams mail lined up & sent on – or put aside. A
letter from a Dr. Norah Clarke Congo Balolo Miss. wants to
come but the reply was to be at Irumu a mo. ago so I don't
know where she is now. Nice to have the organ to sing with.
Jun. 7, Mon.
Got some letters off because Tomasi is going to
Oicha to greet Klines. Tomorrow night they will be there no
doubt. Still lots of letters I should get off. And the art.
for In Af. I hope Gl will do most of it.
Jun. 8, Tues.
Wonder if Klines are at Oicha. Also wonder what
they did to celebrate Mrs. Bs birthday. I sent her Sunny
Room book. Tomasi & Nareu left early this morn hope they
arrived. Perhaps all will be here tomorrow night.
Jun. 9, Wed.
Had a sharp stab of pain as I stooped to pick up a
paper – just a reminder. Cl. & Klines came in time for
dinner. Cl. went right back & will bring another load
tomorrow. Hope Gl will come too. Stanley and the children
look well but Carmel does not. She had been sick – but Drs.
thot mostly tired. Tomorrow we fix up a room in the other
house for them.
Jun. 10, Thur.
Cls came ab't 4:30 after a hard rain &
wind storm. Supper was just ready so they cleaned up &
didn't unload but made up a couple of beds for tonight. This
is Whites 5th anniversary. Mas. baked a cake
& Mrs Reutter put flowers on. Karen has been very cross
as she has an infected toe.
Jun. 11, Fri.
Cls left after breakfast & Stanley went ab't
11. Rained quite hard an hour or more after he left so we
hope he didn't get into it. His brakes were not good. Men
pembed what Cls will use as their bedroom. At least that
room will be clean. They will set up the stove in what was
bath room. Dick sleeps here in my room.
Jun. 12, Sat.
Cls got back ab't 4:30. Mr Kline just after. Both
had trouble getting up the hill because it rained quite hard
as they started up. Mas. baked 4 pies, bread & buns,
cake and got dinner – roasted wheat – was busy all day. I
did very little.
Jun. 13, Sun.
So nice having Klines here. Had nice communion
service. Quiet P.M. Nice too having Cls so near tho they
aren't very settled. Cl. read this eve. They brot Bells song
books – our old ones are pretty well done for. Klines leave
for Rethy tomorrow – Cl goes to Oicha for more things.
Jun. 14, Mon.
Whites went with Cl. as they wanted Dr. to see
Karen's foot. It is getting on OK. Klines left after dinner,
stay at Oicha tonight & go on to Rethy tomorrow. Washed
the mats down there as fleas were bothering Carmel. Are
puttng their things down there so make room for ours.
Jun. 15, Tues.
Cl. worked at car most all day. Don't know what I
did but helpt with dishes so Tomasi & Zakayo could help
Gl. When she gets going Tomasi will cook for her &
Paluku of zamani [Kingwana-”long ago”] will be table boy.
Must find wash boy. Played Flinch.
Jun. 16, Wed.
Cleaned store room where they iron & set away
empty jars on shelves so we can get at them. Had berries
picked & made 2 mac tins of jam. Cl goes to Oicha
tomorrow. He set up their stove in what was N's bath room.
Jun. 17, Thur.
Cl. left early to take trailer back and bring last
things over. Wonder if Klines are at Oicha. Cl. has not
returned. He was to bring the mail & perhaps it was
late. Bot 11 kilos of green peas. Will can them tomorrow.
Folks went to Mutsora & brot paipai too.
Jun. 18, Fri.
Cl. did get back ab't 9 last night but brot no Beni
mail – but a telegram from Cunningham, Wamba – so I wanted
to send a reply & Betty wanted the mail so we asked the
man whom Cl. took on, to go. Now this eve Kasole brings a
big lot of mail. Folks want to go to the Lake Mon. &
want Cls to go too!!! Hope that wont keep up.
Jun. 19, Sat.
Klines came ab't 2. Brot mail from Rethy – a letter
from Sara telling ab't Billy & Faith trying to run away
from school. Ray got them & they have been good
children. Faith likes school but Billy finds it hard. Rays
wont come down to meet Beth since her plane comes on Sun.
Jun. 20, Sun.
All here to chicken dinner. Some A.P.C.M.
missionaries from Lubondai called as we were eating supper –
they are at the hotel. Folks are all packed ready to go to
the Lake.
Jun. 21, Mon.
They got away ab't 4:30 & were back by 3:30.
Had a fine time. I didn't get to sleep til midnight &
was awake before 4 and worked all day only 2 min. rest. Ks
are ready for the truck. Getting their things out & ours
in is tiresome work. Had birthday supper & before we
finished Brand and Cunninghams came. They want 3 wks.
Jun. 22, Tues.
Owen got away quite promptly – but took til 11:00
after to pack the truck. I expected they'd wait for dinner
but they wanted to go before the truck. Quite a small family
now. Mr. C. is quite a musician. They are in the corner
room.
Jun. 23, Wed.
Cl working at turbine. Men digging to find cement
base that was buried when a piece of the precipice went
down. Mr. W. measured for center of rooms & started
wiring. I brot up a lot of things from my house but still
more to get. Whites went to Mutwangas & brot back a tin
of margarine – ½ lb. tin @ Fr. 18. not bad. Started socks
for Dick.
Jun. 24, Thur.
Can't say what I did today. Moved my desk into the
dining room & cleaned out & put drawers in order.
Mr. Cunningham plays the organ a lot & sounds like Dad.
I enjoy it much.
Jun. 25, Fri.
The well drillers have struck water at Aba, so
folks there are happy. Busy getting things ready for Rethy –
am sending a jar of dills to Ray for his birthday. Made some
candy for Billy's birthday. The children have never written
a word ab't running away.
Jun. 26, Sat.

waiting for her he killed a horned viper on her veranda.
Getting letters ready to send with Whites.
Jun. 28, Mon.
Whites left after breakfast for Nyankuni. We
haven't our mail yet. The driver says nothing was given to
him but medicine. We have decided to go to Nyankundi on
Thur. & they get their hunt before Sun. Played Chin.
Checkers.
Jun. 29, Tues.
Getting things together a bit for Thur. Just as we

Put up a camp cot & so have beds for all. Lester at Cls.

come. Happy birthday, Sara.
Jul. 28, Wed.
But these days I do. [Do wear the sweater she
knitted yr before last & didn't wear last year. Entries

Sep. 14, Tues.
It's 8:15 & no Propsts yet – so again the soup
