Jan. 1, Sun.
Clapper [Margaret Clapper], Miss Edna & Jewell
[Jewell Olson] came early & had supper with us too – a
very happy peaceful day – Does it foretell the rest of the
yr.? He knows – and we can trust Him. How wonderful He has
been all thro the years and so faithful even tho we often
failed Him – He knows how this yr. will end & so we have
peace as we look into the future.
Jan. 2, Mon.
Folks all left after breakfast & we had word
Pinkertons w'd be here for dinner so Met. - was busy all
A.M. cleaning rooms, & making beds. They came a bit
after 12. The children are lively but obedient. Wrote letter
home. Mr. P's birthday so she asked to make a cake &
Mass. (Masikini) iced it. It fell but tasted good. Expect
Dr. [Becker?] tomorrow, are they celebrating at Brands.
Jan. 3, Tues.
Dr. came also Carl – also Misses Petrie, &
Zimmerman. These last saw our folks on the road yesterday
& they were happy on the way. Carl looks so natural. It
was 15 years ago yesterday the last time I saw him. P's went
to Pauls for supper – just back 5 min. to 9 – They stay over
tomorrow. Got a couple of letters off.
Jan. 4, Wed.
Picked berries and they got a nice lot so had some
for dinner & more for supper. Cut out dress for Mass's
[Masikini's] girl but didn't sew it. Pinkertons all set to
get away in the morning. Wrote some.
Jan. 5, Thur.
P's got away a bit after 8. Had just asked Betty to
come for waffle supper when Jenzens came hoping to stay a
wk. but I'll have to get beds ready for Weisses. Got no beef
so want to kill a pig. Washed all got quite dry but had
quite a shower just at dark.
Jan. 6, Fri.
I find by my diary it was not
today but the 9th that we landed. Jenzens
left after pr mtg – Was sorry to have them leave but fear
the folks might
come back tomorrow for Rays are at Rethy – Killed a pig –
not very
large. Have lots of cucs sliced ready to make pickles in
the morning. Would be glad if the folks got in tomorrow.
Jan. 7, Sat.
They came ab't
4. All sunburned & happy. All had a grand time they
say. Mas. did baking then cut up the meat such a little
for Fr. 600. Mas. says a goat now is worth Fr. 700.!!
Weisses brot peanut butter & a fruit cake. Will have it tomorrow
night.
Jan. 8, Sun.
Nice communion service. Sunny all day – Dry season
is really here. Paul leaves for Linga very early. Cls ate
break. with me – also dinner & all had supper here &
quite a sing & usual chap – almost finished F. B. Myers
“Joshua”.
Jan. 9, Mon.
50 yrs. today
since I landed. My old diary says so. Wish I c'd see Mrs.
Rhoad she came with me. Paul left early for Linga with
school boys. Ray said congrats over radio & so did
others. Gl & Kathrine made a lovely supper with iced
cup cakes “1906”. Betty F. sent a lovely poem of
appreciation & 1$ bill. The Lord has done great
things for me. He has lead & provided all along.
Praise Him.
Jan. 10, Tues.
Finally have
sandwiches etc. packed. 11 going so took some packing of
food. Got some letters off. 4 folks from Nyangori, A.G.
Mission near Kisumu called. Are at hotel. Am so tired but
can't see
that I did anything. Katherine gave Mrs Weiss a permanent.
Writing Evelyn.
Jan. 11, Wed.
They got away ab't 5 & were back by 5:30. Had
had a grand time & saw lots of animals – but it was HOT.
These days are very hot – real dry season. We hope
it doesn't last too long. Faith didn't go. We had dinner
with K.
Jan. 12, Thur.
Faith still not well. Was lying on couch most all
day. Dick was trying to get up the precipice at Buyses &
was almost at the top asking for a rope to help him when the
ground gave way & he went sliding & rolling down.
Has a bump on his temple & that's all. Gl was terribly
frightened. Nice mail. Paul got back & brot the
groceries. Am Thankful.
Jan. 13, Fri.
B's went to Oicha to get the families of their boys
– haven't come back yet. Rained quite hard while we were at
supper & after Mary Deans, Bobby & Miss Watson
arrived. The ladies sleep at Betty's & Bobby in the
small bed in boys room. Went over & heard messages &
singing from ELWA – in Liberia.
Jan. 14, Sat.
Bs got back by noon & brot Gary & Coralee.
My crowd & Cls 3 went to 2nd valley –
overhanging rock. Only my 10 for break & dinner &
all ate picnic supper in little park. It is Bobby's birthday
& we celebrated Faith's & Richard's too. Gl got the
whole supper. Stanley & Carmel are coming tomorrow.
Jan. 15, Sun.
Klines came – were at Bs for dinner. Left ab't 4
took Bruce along. Each household had its own dinner &
all had supper or hi tea here. Evening service & nice
sing. Think Deans leave tomorrow.
Jan. 16, Mon.
Mary & Bobby Deans, Misses Petrie, Zimmerman
& Watson all left in Mary's car this morning & 5 or
6 natives & lots of stuff. Lassie [German Shepherd dog]
has 3 puppies. Weisses went to Buyses for supper so I ate at
Cls. Gl. finished Cl's sweater – It's very nice but sleeves
are too long.
Jan. 17, Tues.
Pretty busy all day baking & doing last things.
Ended with waffle supper for all 10 & Mass. is really
tired & I am too. Lassie had 9 more puppies – and this
eve we thot she was dying seemed in pain but got over it
& ate a kettle of soup.
Jan. 18, Wed.
Hope all got safely to Rethy. It is surely quiet
around here. I ironed with electric iron – helps a lot.
Lassie & puppies seem OK. 9 still live. Were up at 4.
Weisses got off by 4:30 & Cls by 5:30 with a load of
wives etc of boys at Linga.
Jan. 19, Thur.
Ray sent word to me that Barnetts don't know if
they can come here or not as they came to Congo with Cooks.
He says I sh'd go to Blukwa with Paul & have Cl take me
to Rethy til after Conf. That w'd leave Betty alone here. We
were at Pauls for supper. I'll go down & try to decide
after talking to Ray in the morning.
Jan. 20, Fri.
Pauls here to supper. Working at cleaning Gl's
house and getting letters ready for Pauls to take in the
morning. Mas. trying to patch ceiling in kitchen – keeps
falling down. Ray said Bs do not know if they can get down
but I'm urging Cls to bring them & wrote Ericks
[Barnett] to come this way next mo.
Jan. 21, Sat.
Pauls left ab't 5. Their boy turned on lights
tonight. I ate lunch at Bettys and she had supper &
spent the evening here. Played chex. Boys pembed kitchen but
not finished. Made jam. The sun is hot these days – really
dry season.
Jan. 22, Sun.
A very quiet day. Prue [Frost] came in time for
broadcast. Nothing much to announce only John Gration is
very ill. Eddy takes his place at Blukwa Conf. Fair crowd
out to service. Prue ate dinner and supper here. Had phono
& read.
Jan. 23, Mon.
Finished pembeing kitchen. Mas. baked buns &
bread & I'm giving ½ to Prue. I made 4 glasses of
strasberries jello. Mas. canned 6 qts toms & juice, also
got more letters off – so it has been a profitable day. Some
one put the lights on & as Betty isn't here – I'll go
put them out by myself.
Jan. 24, Tues.
Mas. has time off now til Mon. unless some one
comes. Radio said Mr. Faulkner was coming to Oicha today. Mr
Gration still very ill. Got letters off. Told Benj
[Benjamina] not to put lights on tonight but Betty's are
very dim so she may come over tomorrow night.
Jan. 25, Wed.
Asked Benj to put on lights so Prue came over. She
read. I crocheted til 8 then had a game of Chin. Chek.
Picked berries today – such a lot. Will have 2 big kettles
of jam. Headache & sick stomach all day. Better after
taking aspirin.
Jan. 26, Thur.
Made 38 lbs. of strawberry jam. Mail came – not a
lot but some. Rained just as we went for broadcast. Muhindo
watched jam so I got letters read. Again Prue came over
& we had more Chin. Checkers to finish the evening. It's
nice having lights but we must turn them off.
Jan. 27, Fri.
Crocheted 3 ½ motifs – most I've ever done in 1
day. Prue wanted to put a jig saw together. It's pretty
difficult & she didn't finish tho I helpt a bit too.
“Between 2 fires” it is called. No locking so is hard to
keep together.
Jan. 28, Sat.
Muhindo cleaned rooms. I baked deep dish pie of
peaches, biscuits and cake. Worked with refrig. We filled it
[kerosene] & then it wouldn't burn right – smoked &
when I put it down, went out. We cleaned the soot & I
broke the chimney – so left it out brot things here &
boiled all to keep.
Jan. 29, Sun.
Rained during church & over dinner. Prue here.
Wrote Co [Cora, sister] – Beth sent a pretty card. Wonder if
she is still here. One more night til my family come. Do
hope Barnetts come too.
Jan. 30, Mon.
Yes, I'm very disappointed. Buyses came but not
Cls. They come Wed. - hunting. Well, guess the house will
stay clean & flowers bright but will cook berries. Glad
Bs are here. They tell of 5 missionaries going into new
country in Ecuador being killed by natives. Sad! Barnetts
don't seem to be coming down - so sorry. Maybe after Com mtg
Erik can bring em.
Jan. 31, Tues.
Thot Kenya folks might come this way but saw no
one. Made almost 20 lbs of jam. Radioed for Cls to bring
sugar. Hope they got the message. Got the mail off – sent
wire to Lolwa ladies who asked to come on the 4th.
Hope they get it.
Feb. 1, Wed.
Cls got back ab't 6. Did not get our radio
message so brot no sugar nor frig lamp chimney. Brot mail
& also meat – wild. B's might come if Ruth comes
& can drive down here. Lolwa folks will come on Fri.
Paul put a chimney on refrig lamp so it is going.
Feb. 2, Thur.
Very heavy fog til P.M. Sent Muhindo to get sugar
at Mutwanga – ½ kilo paper bags @ Fr 9 a bag. Cls ate break
here – I ate supper there. Cl hopes to get at the roof soon.
Spent some time reading letters. So cold had fire in grate.
Feb. 3, Fri.
Am afraid no Kenya folks are coming. Picked
strawberries. Jam is ready to cook. Sent one dish pan full
to Buyses. Crocheted some. Gave one of Gl's faded dresses to
Mrs. Daudi Muhindo. Lots of calendars came & have given
most away.
Feb. 4, Sat.
No Lolwa folks have come either. These are
disappointing days. Cl took the little animal “Bugeyes”
[lemur] to Arlette. She was glad for him. Made ab't 8 lbs of
jam & 2 qts of sweet pickles. All had supper here.
Cheese souffle – then Scrabble.
Feb. 5, Sun.
Betty went to a school above the Cath. mission.
Quite a walk for a 60 yr. old. All had dinner here and
supper at Cls. A quiet day – hot & sunny. Think Cl. may
have the middle room cemented. I'll use SM's gift $25.
Feb. 6, Mon.
The ladies came In time for supper at Gls. Cl is
expecting to go to Oicha & Beni on Wed. I may go too for
vaccination & to get papers signed for permanent res.
permit. Wrote letters some & sewed at table cloth need
only 8 more motifs.
Feb. 7, Tues.
Picked 5 heaped pans of berries washed most all for
Oicha. Also did some tomato juice. The guests slept in A.M.
& P.M. & are in bed again by 8:30. Have things
together for tomorrow. Passport renewed & permanent res.
papers.
Feb. 8, Wed.
Busy day. Went to office first got 2 parcels from
Co. Lots of lovely things. Got passport papers signed.
Dinner at Klines. Saw most evryone – not Gladys Becker. Dr.
not there yet. Jewell gave me vaccination. We picked up a
young man & knapsack. Wanted to see Dr. Becker's work to
compare with Dr. Schwietzer's.
Feb. 9, Thur.
No Dr. after Mr. Williams told us he was coming.
Will hear tomorrow no doubt. Am trying to get the table
cloth finished – only 6 more to do. Lights going out.
Feb. 10, Fri.
Have been clearing out my desk & destroying old
letters etc. Plenty of that to do during next few months.
Wrote home thanks for parcels – also to Browns etc who want
to come. Have berries & roselle buds ready for jelly
tomorrow with pectin. Dr. asked shall he come tomorro? Paul
had wet cement so couldn't reply.
Feb. 11, Sat.
Kathrine wants all to dinner tomorrow so didn't
bake pie but a spice cake mix for Gls supper tomorrow. Do
nuts we ate this eve and mac & salmon, carrot salad
& buns & pickles. Have only 3 more motifs to make.
Dr. comes Mon.
Feb. 12, Sun.
At Buyses for dinner & Gls for supper so we had
an easy day. Nice service and communion. Quite a number
here. The girls are all set ready for the Lake tomorrow.
Feb. 13, Mon.
This noon at Cls we were saying how nice & dry
these days are & hope they continue til we get the roof
on – and in an hr. it was raining hard so Dr. got stuck
& left his car & walked up. The girls were very
dusty – said it didn't rain where they were. Dr. staid for
dish of soup. Gave me medicine for dizzy spells.
Feb. 14, Tues.
Mas. did jam. 2 large kettles. I wrote letters
& fixed up papers for per. res. per & passport &
sent money orders. Cl & Paul go to Beni tomorrow. Rained
again but not so hard. Cl & Gl ate here. Waffles. But
Mas came so late Gl had em mixed – he baked them.
Feb. 15, Wed.
Boys brot iron, cement & a few groceries and
MAIL. Nice lot. Sara wrote they had word that Mrs. Simpson
has gone to glory. It is really good for Bertha has Leukemea
so badly she will probably go soon too. Finished last motif
of table cloth.
Feb. 16, Thur.
Met. went for meal & brot pork. Looks nice tho.
Putting edge onto table cloth – want to take pictures
tomorrow & will get one of it. Girls staid in bed til
most noon. Lillian took barbitol so slept hard. Paul &
Cl working at roof timbers.
Feb. 17, Fri.
Mas. most sick with a cold but baked buns &
cake. Supper here spag & sausage – jello & cake.
Took pictures also of table cloth tho I still have a bit of
edge to do.
Feb. 18, Sat.
FINISHED TABLE CLOTH at 4 P.M. Now what? Writing
letters tonight. Will start a stocking rug next. Ate dinner
& supper at Cls. Girls left after breakfast so should be
home by now.
Feb. 19, Sun.
All had chicken dinner here and lovely supper at
Buyses. Pleasant all day til ab't 4 when a hard rain came
down the Mt. Wrote some & read. Biasiko boys came for
mtg tomorrow. Gl has table cloth on.
Feb. 20, Mon.
No Harters nor Kline. Will hear why not in the
morning. Cl. began putting rafters up. Will be able to put
most iron on before removing grass. No rain today. Sorted
stockings & began cutting nylons – such a lot – mostly
Evelyn's. Met. washed but goes for meat tomorrow. Mas. most
sick with cold. No work.
Feb. 21, Tues.
And still no Com. folks. Stan said on radio he
didn't know why they hadn't come. Worked again on the roof –
a tiny shower – not enuf to stop work. Met. brot meat
(beef). I worked at letters all day. Eat at Cls din. &
sup. can't make much fire as smoke bothers under the roof.
Feb. 22, Wed.
Pauls went to Oicha & Beni. Brot Stan back for
mtg. - have heard nothing ab't Harters. All at Cls for
supper & such a talk fest. Had to have all the news.
Lots of mail too – 9:30 & haven't read nearly all.
Feb. 23, Thur.
Word of Kathryn Johnstons going – also cousin Earl
Offule. A release for both. Don't know how prepared Earl
was. Baked coconut macs for Pauls safari – goes to Biasiko

Feb. 24, Fri.
Packed the 2 tin boxes – went thro bags &
baskets – sorting pieces – some rags & others to use as
patching. Cut up stockings – rain since dark. Paul &
Stanley got away ab't 5. Have been looking for Gl's new slip
– she gave it to me but I didn't need it now she wants it
& I can't find it any place.
Feb. 25, Sat.
Baked a bit or tried to but smoke got so bad had to
take buns & pie to Cls to bake. Then I also baked
blueberries muffins. Ella Spees treat – Good. While sitting
in living room after supper there was an awful crash bang
& part of the back wall of brick fell down. No joining
to bind walls together - !
Feb. 26, Sun.
Very quiet day for me. Ate at Cls breakfast &
supper & dinner with Kathryn. Expect De Poerque family
for supper but no one came. Wrote letters. Couldn't go thro
back door so for water & chicken feed etc. had to use
bath room door. Timmy has bit of fever so had mtg down
there.
Feb. 27, Mon.
Cl fixed braces on back wall & then saw front
wall was going same way – so has that braced & men are
putting up brick again. No lights but bath room & my
room came on. Cl. thinks a wire must be broken – everything
takes so much time. Wrote letters in my room.
Feb. 28, Tues.
Cl fixed wire. Wrote letters most all day. Went to
triple wedding with Prue. One was her girl. Park man came
& Cl. had to show them around so didn't get so much
done. Ate supper here. So many interruptions or he would
have begun putting iron on tomorrow. Rained a bit at dark.
Feb. 29, Wed.
Made jam & worked at stock rug while watching
jam at Gls. We mentioned today how often rain has come near
but not here. This P.M. it poured across the Lusilubi but
not a drop here. Cl. said if he had known there'd be no rain
he c'd have taken the grass off & had the iron on by
now.
Mar. 1, Thur.
Mail came so I was reading letters all A.M. Worked
some at rug but there were many interruptions. Pauline Haas
wants to bring 3 ladies & a man here next Mon. for just
a day or 2. Cl. says some of the grass comes off
tomorrow.
Mar. 2, Fri.
And it did. And the iron is on the east end – and
grass all over - & some ceiling came down. Mas. comes
tomorrow to do baking. Mr. & Mrs. McBride from Nigeria
came in ab't 4 P.M. They are E.U.B [Evangelical United
Bretheren?] workers were the first of our church – so are
real pioneers. We eat at Cls. Hope to get cleaned up
tomorrow.
Mar. 3, Sat.
Mas. came & baked: buns – cin. rolls, pie,
bread, toll house cookies and cake. Had fresh strawberries
for dessert. Muhindo & I actually shovelled dirt out
& got it looking sort o' clean – another lot came down
while we were talking after supper.
Mar. 4, Sun.
Nice restful day. Mc Brides seemed to enjoy it all.
Had break. at Cls. dinner at Pauls & supper at Cls. Nice
sing & mtg here. Am sending letters to Guildings &
Lehrers by them as they go to Uganda tomorrow.
Mar. 5, Mon.
West end of house is done now. A brisk shower of a
few big drops made lots of noise. Mc Brides got away after
breakfast. We did enjoy them. P. Fraas said she & the
Hollywood ladies might be here. The rooms are ready but no
one has come. Mas. baked bread at Gls. Rest of grass comes
off tomorrow. Will be glad to have it done.
Mar. 6, Tues.
Dr. came – radio said Haas party sailed right thro
Oicha in a hurry for the plane. Grass all came down. Whew!
Haven't enuf iron. They put on all there is & covered
rest with canvas. Cl & Betty & Paul & Tim go to
Beni tomorrow & hope to get more. Tim must have tooth
pulled & Betty needs help too.
Mar. 7, Wed.
Cl. - Betty – Paul & Timmy & a load
of natives went to Oicha & Beni & back by 5:30 and
brot iron so hope the roof will be finished by tomorrow
night. Pretty good mail & passport is ready now but the
perm. res. papers staid at Beni so must see ab't them. Miss
Edna wants to come when she can get up. Brashlers Apr 30 –
May 10.
Mar. 8, Thur.
THE ROOF IS ON! And no rain. Tomorrow they build up
the chimneys and will sweep over the ceilings and sweep here
too for many patches of ceiling have come down. Grass must
be taken away & the terrace cleaned – but how nice the
roof looks – such a comfort.
Mar. 9, Fri.
It's been real hot today – perhaps the iron roof
has something to do with it. Finished knitting the back of
the “shrug” & started left front. Thot Miss Love might
come today – but hasn't. Then perhaps next wk. Katherine
wants us there to supper tomorrow.
Mar. 10, Sat.
Chimneys are ab't done. Men began patching the
plaster. Baked apple pie to celebrate the finishing of the
roof. Had supper at Buyses. Did bread & Pie, at Gl. also

grass cleared away. Made 2 Klim tins of jam. Got letters
off. Starting to rumble.
Mar. 14, Wed.
Pauls left after pr. mtg. They are going to work in
Bukavu. At least for 2 yrs. Twas so nice seeing them
even for only a bit. Met. went for meat. Took dining rm mats
out & are putting pembe on the patched places. Mrs. Von

the hill will be washed clean. Hope it clears by morning.
Mar. 19, Mon.
How it is raining! And last night Cls had pieces of
ceiling down in all rooms except the kitchen. Prue had 4
places in living room & Buyses had wet spots – but mine
seemed OK til just now when Cls went home we found a wet
spot in bath room. White ants were thick around the porch
light. Cls are eating here now & it's so nice. They
staid after supper til 8:15. Still raining.
Mar. 20, Tues.

& radio said the same there so nice for sunrise service.
Cls got there [Rethy?] yesterday, so they are all happy. We
had a lovely communion service. Then chicken dinner here
& Paul & Tim left for Oicha & then quite hard
rain. Benj. put the lights on. Betty came for a snack &
then our evening service.
Apr. 2, Mon.
Radio said “Alice [crossed out] Buyse was born
yesterday” wonder if Paul got there for the party. Hope to
hear tomorrow if Dr. is coming. Only Metusela here for work
– he washed – I told all they c'd have the day off. Wrote
letters.
Apr. 3, Tues.
Dr. came. Buyses baby is “Larry” and again this
morning “Arlette's baby boy came last night” - 3 in
succession. Ab't 4 Paul Hs came bringing Mrs. de Poerk &
babies who have whooping cough. Dr. gave them medicine and
Pauls took them back again then came here for the night. Are
looking across the river for a place for a little house for
when they retire.
Apr. 4, Wed.
Pauls left after pr mtg & looked at the
turbine. Kasole told him there's a place back of or beyond
Jac. that they'd like them to have – don't know what govt
would say. Worked at sorting over pictures etc. Betty came
over but we had to turn the lights off early because its
threatening to storm.
Apr. 5, Thur.
Nice mail came – been reading it all day. “Never a
dull moment” book - & magazines to keep me busy. Took
every thing out of pantry & kitchen & pembed – eat
on little table in living room every thing piled full. Good
chance to sort out things not needed. Belt slipt off the
turbine. Hope Beni can fix it.
Apr. 6, Fri.
It's fixed. Just the belt slipped off. Lights are
not very bright tho. Pembed pantry again – the spots - &
moved things back. Packing quite a bit away. Floor isn't
cleaned yet. Also pembed spots in Cls house. Will make up
beds on Mon. We hear Mr. Langford's father is with them.
Apr. 7, Sat.
Washed up pantry & kitchen & put things
back into place sorting & putting away many. Betty had
supper here. Mas baked pie, cake, & cookies. Metusela
worked at other house. Betty says some one got into her
house while she was at school. She hasn't found anything
missing.
Apr. 8, Sun.
Nice A.M. service & quiet day. Prue ate dinner
& supper here. Just ab't 5 dark clouds came down the
valley & it poured. I said I'd light the pressure light
for I didn't think Benj. would go out in such a storm then
the lights flickered & came on nice & bright. Then
suddenly ours went out but the others were on. Fuse must be
burned out. So we lit the pressure.
Apr. 9, Mon.
Got mail off with Metusela & hope Doudi gets to
Oicha in good time. Paul talked this morning but said
nothing ab't coming back. Apolo is going to help with the
guest house work. Have 7 beds made up now & 2 more ready
if needed. A Mr. Chapin called. Knew C.E.H. [Charles E.
Hurlburt] He is of Am. Museum in N.Y. Knew Akeley.
Apr. 10, Tues.
Radio said Buyses would be home on Thurs - &
they didn't know when Langfords will get here but we will
hear tomorrow. Have beds – 7 made up in Cl's house. If
Lemayes come will put up 2 more. Muhindo did not come –
relative died. So glad for Apolo's help. Met. will go for
meat tomorrow.
Apr. 11, Wed.
Radio said Langfords would be arriving at Oicha
late tonight so we are expecting them for dinner tomorrow
and Pauls too. Rays are at Adja tonight & will go on to
Napopo tomorrow. Betty pembed her dining room. Will we be a
crowd tomorrow night?
Apr. 12, Thur.
They came ab't 4:30. Paul couldn't find the trouble
with my lights so we had to use the pressure. They brot
parcel from Ray for Apr 20. The booties came from Lo &
they are darling. Baby cried quite a lot while we ate but
his first safari makes him very tired. Letter from Gl. also
the others & a lovely picture of John – but not awfully
like him.
Apr. 13, Fri.
Hope Rays got to Napopo this eve. but it's [Fri.]
the 13th!!! Got most of the letters read last
eve. Worked in kitchen all A.M. and this PM wrote the girls.
Folks are playing Chinese checkers & Scrabble. Hope to
hear in the morning if folks are coming out tomorrow. Rained
much. Quite a hard quake.
Apr. 14, Sat.
Stanley & Gary brot Beattys out and now all are
settled in their rooms – and Buyses Sr. came in time for
tea. Stanley & his two left right after tea. All had
supper here but not Buyses. Hard for Katherine to come &
bring baby – and we are quite a crowd. Had tape recordings
tonight on Beattys machine. Some were Ray's make.
Apr. 15, Sun.
Fairly quiet day even tho a crowd. Had things
pretty well ready so dinner wasn't very late. Boys didn't
come for tea so we washed up. Rained pretty hard even at mtg
time but B's came. Not Katherine – so we had nice mtg. Mr.
Langford spoke on Psa 46. Lots of flying ants out around
light.
Apr. 16, Mon.
Little Barbara was playing & slipt & fell
tearing open her sore leg that Dr. had sewed up with several
sts. so Paul hustled Bill & B. over to Oicha taking the
mail along & thot they'd come back tomorrow & bring
it but they came back so mail man goes. Lots of rain.
Clothes still on the line.
Apr. 17, Tues.
Cut up & parcelled out the meat, a sheep I bot
from Yuda for Fr. 500. We had chops – very good. Good corn
meal muffins & honey for dessert. Barbara runs around
but keeps knee bent a bit. Started writing the art. for In.
Af. [Inland Africa] “After 50 Yrs.-” I just can't seem to
get anything much lined up.
Apr. 18, Wed.
Had stew & dumplings – Everyone enjoyed them.
Mr & Mrs. Rempel called had heard there was no room so
after tea went to hotel.
Tried to write at art. but so many interruptions.
Had tapes again tonight.
Apr. 19, Thur.
Mail came. several birthday letters. More rain so
no clothes dried. Langfords got no wire ab't L. Srs plane so
they will leave tomorrow after lunch. B Srs. left this morn.

good to me. I praise Him.
Apr. 21, Sat.
Wonder what sort of a day V.M. had – also Queen
Eliza. Even a queen could not have had a happier time than I
had yesterday. Finished writing the art. but am sending it
to Ray for correction & criticism – so hope it will be
quite dif. when it appears in print. Timmy is not well so K.
staid with him. Others all here to supper.
Apr. 22, Sun.
A lovely sunny day til 3 PM when it rained quite
hard. All had dinner here – Paul staid with Timmy & babe
– then all had supper there – and a tape recording for our
eve service. Very nice. Paul takes 'em to Oicha tomorrow.
Apr. 23, Mon.
They left after pr. mtg. very well loaded and Paul
Betty & Timmy came back ab't 6. Betty came here & we
had bouillon & sandwiches. Did quite a bit at rug -
& after supper just talked. Were birthday congrats from
Dr Morises.
Apr. 24, Tues.
Beautiful til ab't 5 when a hard rain came just as
Met. left taking the post to Daudi. For some reason the
lights have not come on. Pembed the toilet but didn't finish
very well as it was finished. [?] Met. cleaned guest room
with disinfectant, & will do hall & other rooms
tomorrow.
Apr. 25, Wed.
Not so sunny as yesterday but got bedroom, hall

it over with lime.
Worked at rug some. Taxes are collected tomorrow,
so no work much.
Apr. 26, Thur.

Paul went back with them & then drove up. Lights are
fine tonight after not having any for 2 nights.
