This is the first proof printed from this plate. I wanted to use a somewhat coarse aquatint to etch the dark darks. Procedures so far: 1. soft ground and paper overlay for the light lines, which came out lighter than planned. 2. slightly coarse aquatint and lift ground for the dark stripes and branches. Came out about as planned. Next step is a finer aquatint for foliage, weeds, zebra ears and noses, and subtle shading on zebras. |

Completed second aquatint. Used step biting, then lots of burnishing and polishing to bring up the highlights. Stopped out with a variation of Ruth Leaf's white ground. |
