[Inscription:] “A Merry Christmas to Florence, from Lora. 1926.”

“Be not amazed at life,
     ‘Tis always been the mode of God,
with His elect,
Their hopes exactly to fulfill,
In times & ways they least expect.”

             From Mrs Guither

[From clippings:]

     MY NEW YEAR PRAYER.

Dear Master, for this coming year
     Just one request I bring;
I do not pray for happiness
     Or any earthly thing;
I do not ask to understand
     The way thou leadest me,
But this I ask: “Teach me to do
     The thing that pleaseth thee.”

A quiet lot in life is mine,
     Made up of little things;
Teach me to do as unto thee
     The duties each day brings,
Faithful in that which is the least
     Dear Master, I would be,
Thus making all my daily work
     “The thing that pleaseth thee.”

I want to please thee through this year
     In every word I say.
Dear Master, take these lips of mine
     And keep them day by day
From foolish talking, angry words,
     And evil-speaking free:
Teach me, that I may ever speak
     “The thing that pleaseth thee.”

Not only what to do and say
     Would I be daily taught;
I ask thee so to cleanse my heart
     And purify each thought
That every thought and every wish
     May pure and holy be.
I want in everything to be
     “The thing that pleaseth thee.”

I want to know thy guiding voice,
     To walk with thee each day,
Dear Master, make me swift to hear
     And ready to obey;
And thus the year I now begin
     A happy year will be,
If I am seeking just to do
     “The thing that pleaseth thee.”

Went to school awhile. Sort of summary work today. Got the fathers together & they dug a hole for toilet but couldn’t go very deep. Had prayermtg but only 4 came. Wrote Shaffers & Mrs. Davis and sent 53 songs. Got some pictures pasted in- & fixed some books too.

Sat. Dec. 31

Baked bread. cookies. pie. Girls cleaned up. Washed a few clothes. Bridget took letters to Narok. Ab’t dark while we sat on veranda saw Dr. Fosters car drive in. So we have neighbors again. Since Wed’s headache my mind has cleared & I feel better all around. Worked at pictures.

And now the old year is done! at least as regards time. We can add nothing more to our doings for 1927. but I pray much that has been done will go on and on and count greatly for eternity.

All I can say as I close the record for the year “Hitherto hath the Lord helpt us”. His sufficiency was never so evident as during this year. We were never before so without human help as this year and it was wonderful how the Lord helpt us thro’ it all. and we are so grateful as we look back that we had those experiences when we were all together. The boys write now how glad they were for every experience. My only regret is that I was not more trustful and happier in it all. I know I often disappointed my Lord and my testimony wasn’t what it should have been. I do thank Him for forgiveness & peace of mind now ab’t it all. He led us forth here to Africa and just a step at a time provided for the whole trip and gave us enuf to get a ram to pump water up here.

Shaffers returned all our things they had and while we still owe them for most of them yet we have had enuf money to get on alright and have some sent to the boys too. God has been wonderfully good to us. As we look back we praise Him and as we look forward we trust.
